Pike Nurseries Becomes an Employee-owned Company

Pike Nurseries management is pleased to announce the company has combined with Armstrong Garden Centers, its sister corporation in California, to operate under an established Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). The plan transfers ownership to Pike Nurseries and Armstrong Garden Centers employees through a defined contribution benefit program.

71 Ga. UPS drivers added to Circle of Honor

(WXIA) -- More than 1,400 UPS drivers worldwide were recently inducted into the Circle of Honor, an organization for employees who have achieved at least 25 years of accident-free driving.

Seventy-one of the inductees live in Georgia.

"My thanks go to all of them for their dedication and focus, and for the countless lives they've saved," Dwayne Meeks, president of UPS South Atlantic District, said in a statement.

Georgia's senior safe driver is Guy Haynes of Tifton, who can boast 43 accident-free years. The most seasoned Circle of Honor driver is Thomas Camp of Livonia, Mich., who has been driving for UPS for 52 years without an accident.

The fair will be Thursday, July 24 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse. Job opportunities are available in maintenance leadership, engineering leadership and manufacturing engineering.

Keurig bringing 550 jobs to Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. -- Coffee manufacturer Keurig Green Mountain announced plans to open a facility in Douglas County, bringing 550 jobs and $337 million to the area.

The company will begin accepting applications this fall for jobs in several areas, including production, maintenance, engineering, safety and IT.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced Thursday that Keurig has also partnered with Atlanta-based Coca-Cola to develop Keurig Cold, an in-home cold beverage system to complement its hot drink brewers.

The new 585,000-square-foot Douglasville center will support production of pods for the new Keurig Cold platform.

WellStar cuts 29 corporate jobs

MARIETTA, Ga. -- WellStar Health System cut nearly 30 corporate jobs Wednesday.

The Marietta-based health system did not offer any reason for the cuts, but a spokesman for WellStar said 11 team member roles were eliminated.

Another 18 team members' positions were displaced, which means that the company will try to find another open position for them to fill.

King of Pops buys farm near Douglasville

(ATLANTA BUSINESS CHRONICLE) -- Atlanta's popular popsicle maker King of Pops has bought a 68-acre farm near Douglasville.

The tract known as Daniell Nursery has been operating since 1970 and includes a horse stable.

King of Pops will use the land to grow fresh ingredients and Christmas trees, as well as to host farm-to-table events, according to The Shumacher Group Inc., an Atlanta-based restaurant brokerage and consulting firm.

"Their business is growing," said Peter Kruskamp with The Shumacher Group, who represented King of Pops in the deal.
