AUSTELL, GA -- The Cobb County Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) Unit, in conjunction with the Austell Police Department, continue to investigate a fatality crash that occurred on C.H. James Parkway near Garrett Road in Austell.

According to investigators, on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 13, the driver of a blue 1987 Honda motorcycle was traveling in the eastbound lanes of C.H. James Parkway approaching Garrett Road. Preliminary information from the crash site indicates that the driver of the motorcycle was likely to have been traveling below the posted speed limit without his lights on.

At some point, the driver of a gold 2005 Chevrolet Impala struck the rear of the motorcycle, ejecting its driver. After the impact, both the car and the motorcycle came to a stop on the eastbound side of C.H. James Parkway.

The driver of the Honda motorcycle has been identified as 50-year-old Robert Luther Pearson of Douglasville.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA -- The Georgia Department of Transportation will be paving beginning tonight on the State Route 5/Rose Avenue intersection realignment project.

Crews will work from 7:00 p.m. tonight (Sept. 23) until 5:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24; from 10:00 p.m. Friday until noon on Saturday, Sept. 25; and from 7:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26 until 5:00 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27.

"This is another big step in moving this project forward," said DOT area engineer Michael Hill. "We are expecting some delays, but the good news is that when we open the lanes back up on Monday morning, traffic will be in its final alignment."

The project consists of reconstructing the existing intersection of State Route 5 and Rose Avenue, just north of I-20 in Douglas County. The improvements will include realigning the intersection, installing traffic signals and adding raised medians.

The $2.6 million project began in Aug. 2009 and has a completion date of April 7, 2011.
