VILLA RICA, Ga. -- Every year, Villa Rica celebrates its gold rush heritage with a festival, a parade -- and a 5K.

The 2014 Gold Rush Festival 5K will be Saturday, Sept. 6 in downtown Villa Rica. It starts at 8:30 a.m., giving runners plenty of time to conquer the course and then enjoy the 10 a.m. parade.

Registration is $20 and includes a race T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers, masters finishers and three finishers in each age group.

BREMEN, Ga. -- No Place Like Home, the West Georgia ALS 5K, will be held this weekend in Bremen.

The race will be Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Bremen Parks and Recreation Department Gymnasium. Day-of registration opens at 7 a.m., with the race scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.

All runners will receive T-shirts, while awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in each age group.

Registration is $25 through race day. All proceeds will benefit Georgia's chapter of the ALS Association.

Race this weekend: Deputy Blake Gammill

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- This year's Blake Gammill 10.5K, 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run will be held Saturday, June 14.

The race benefits the Douglas County Sheriff's Office SERT Team and is named for a sheriff's deputy who was killed in the line of duty in 2005.

The 5K will be off and running at 7:30 a.m., the 10.5K will take place at 8:15 a.m. and the fun run begins at 8:20 a.m. All three courses will wind through Boundary Waters Park in Douglasville.

Runners will receive technical T-shirts, while prizes will be presented to the overall winners, overall masters winners and top three finishers in each age group.

VILLA RICA, Ga. -- Villa Rica High School will host its first annual Flash Dash 5K this weekend.

The race will be Saturday, May 17 and is 1980's-themed, so runners are encouraged to dress in their favorite decade attire.

Race day registration opens at 8 a.m., and a kids' fun run will be at 9 a.m. The 5K will start at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by a day of food and games on the football field.

The event is $20 for adults and $12 for kids. Proceeds will benefit the school's Cheer Cats Booster Club.

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Run or Dye, advertised as "the world's most colorful 5K," will roll into metro Atlanta this weekend.

The race will be held Saturday, May 10 at Foxhall Resort in Douglasville. Registration is still open and can be completed at runordye.com. It costs $57 per person; those who sign up a team of four or more runners get a $5 discount per participant.

In Run or Dye, runners are showered in colorful cornstarch dye as they tear through the course. By the end, everyone is covered in bright colors.

Money raised by this race goes to JV Outreach, a non-profit organization that uses dance to make a positive change in children's lives.

The race begins at 9 a.m. Foxhall Resort is located at 8000 Capps Ferry Road.

Atlanta Track Club launches scholarship program

Atlanta Track Club launches scholarship program

(WXIA) -- Youth running groups, rejoice -- the Atlanta Track Club has created a scholarship program just for you.

The Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge will award scholarships to the three organizations that have the most children registered for the 2014 Peachtree Jr. or Lil' Peach Dash.

The first place team will be given a $1,500 scholarship, a $1,250 cash donation from the Atlanta Track Club and $250 in Sports Authority store credit. Two runners-up will each get $750 scholarships, $500 donations and $250 in Sports Authority credit.

"Through the Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge, we are able to give back to organizations that share our goal of inspiring children to be healthier and more active," Atlanta Track Club Executive Director Rich Kenah said in a release. "Atlanta Track Club is proud to partner with Sports Authority to offer these scholarships to provide extra motivation to keep kids moving."

AJC Peachtree Road Race lottery registration is now open. It will close Saturday, Mar. 22 at 11:59 p.m.

Those who are chosen for the race will be informed by Tuesday, Mar. 25.
