Goodwill receives $5.7 million grant to help those in need

ATLANTA -- Good news is coming for many Georgians who are struggling to find jobs.

U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis recently announced that Goodwill of North Georgia will receive $5,724,222 to help people with barriers to employment, namely ex-offenders and low-income non-custodial parents, obtain the skills they need to find work.

The funds will go toward an Enhanced Transitional Jobs Demonstration program, which offers temporary paid work experiences to more than 3,500 people nationwide. The program improves participants' employability, earnings and opportunities for advancement, not to mention their self-sufficiency and long-term success in the workforce.

"This grant provides needed support to individuals who face significant obstacles to employment," Solis said.

Shopping for Wedding Rings? Buyer Beware, Three Keys to Consider

Shopping for Wedding Rings? Buyer Beware, Three Keys to Consider

Wedding rings are a sentimental treasure of the bond that you and your partner share. For this reason, ring shopping should be a memorable occasion full of excitement. However, be sure to get the best value for your dollar.

Recently, I spoke with Diamond Consultant Sunit B. Choudhari of Diamonds Forever at Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville, Ga. When shopping for your wedding rings, Sunit stresses that you educate yourself on how to select quality diamonds. He offered three key tips that will benefit anyone on the hunt for “bling.”

  1. Grade: Diamonds have grades like clarity, color, and cut. After observing these, look at the “fire,” also called sharpness.
  1. Setting: When you buy jewelry, in addition to appearance, look for sturdiness. For example, in an invisible setting, diamonds can easily fall out.

ATLANTA – According to the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, “country music is a perennial Southern favorite in Atlanta and it won’t disappoint”. The music, which has its roots in the south, is known as a blend of, both, traditional and popular music. The country music genre gained widespread popularity around the mid-1900’s as music known as “hillbilly” or old-time music began to decline. Hillbilly music was a genre of music native to the people of the Ozarks. The music was usually played on acoustic instrument like a guitar or a banjo.

Over the years, old-time music changed however most of the lyrical content and instrumentation stayed the same. As it evolved, the arrangement of instruments grew to include the electronic keyboard, drums, the bass, fiddle and the harmonica.

Want to Get Fit for Your Marriage? Help May be Necessary

Many people want to be in tip-top shape by the time their wedding day rolls around. Slimmer physiques are all to grin about on your big day. It’s especially exciting when brides and grooms do their fitness regimens together.

To get some help, my fiancé, Lance, and I went to Gold’s Gym in Douglasville, Ga. Personal trainer Joe Taylor provided tips and guided us on exercise routines to help achieve our goals. He was a major inspiration in that he pushed us when we felt like we couldn’t go on. With this in mind, realize that in addition to offering expertise in fitness, a personal trainer is effective in pushing you when those “giving up” moments arise, holding you accountable in achieving your goals, and offering support in your efforts.
