BEST SPOTS: Dog Parks

BEST SPOTS: Dog Parks

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- For this week's edition of Best Spots, we have compiled a list of dog parks for you to take you furry friend for some fun.

Recently, dog parks have been sprouting up in the Atlanta area. With newly modified leash law restrictions, owners who may or may not have yards need a place for their dogs to run free and get adequate daily exercise.

Some say, these parks are becoming more popular as the country begins placing more of an emphasis on health following the First Lady’s “Let’s Move” initiative.

Dog owners in the Douglasville can take their furry children to the Deer Lick Park for some off-leash exercise. The park is fenced and smaller dogs and larger dogs have separate play areas. The park is located at 2105 Mack Road in Douglasville.

Burger Park in Smyrna is, also, an off-leash park and is moderately sized, for its type.

Douglasville Kennel Club to Host Major Dog Show

DOUGLASVILLE, GA -- Residents of the Atlanta area will have the opportunity to see quality examples of almost 160 breeds of dogs at the Douglasville Kennel Club dog show on Friday, Oct. 22.

The show, which is expected to host around 2,000 dogs, will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with Best in Show judging to be held around 4:00 p.m. It will be held at the Atlanta Exposition Center South (3850 Jonesboro Road, Atlanta, 30354).

The Douglasville Kennel Club show is the first of a three-day cluster of shows held in conjunction with the Atlanta Kennel Club and the Newnan Kennel Club. This group of shows is among the most important in the Southeast and attracts exhibitors from across the United States, as well as Canada, Mexico and South America.

The judges in the competition come from as far away as Sweden to render their expert judgements of the dogs presented.
