Douglasville pastor quits after child molestation allegations surface

DOUGLASVILLE, GA - To say the faith of Douglas County's King's Way Baptist Church has been shaken is an understatement.

Rev. Bill Wininger, who has been their shepherd for 15 years, is no longer there.

His photo and sermons have vanished from the independent Baptist church's website.

In the past two weeks their Christian school has sent out 2 letters to parents, including the latest on October 27th, confirming his resignation and allegations on the internet about his alleged behavior at North Sharon Baptist Church in Michigan nearly two decades ago.

Those allegations come from 25-year-old Bethany Foeller Leonard who started a Facebook page called "Justice for the Victims of Bill Wininger".

In an 11-page letter published October 20th, she claimed he sexually abused her beginning when she was just 3 and lasting until she was 5.

"He taught me the meaning of deep, deep sorrow; he taught me a fear like I had never experienced before; he taught me what it was like to wish I could die," she wrote.

She said she went public because, "He has worn his mask for long enough."

When similar allegations were made, but not proven, against some other men in his Michigan church in the '90's, Rev. Wininger wrote a book called, "A Church Falsely Accused".

Now Michigan State Police are investigating the newly surfaced allegations against Wininger.

His Douglas County home is up for sale and calls to his phone have not been returned.

On Thursday, King's Way Baptist Church told 11 Alive, "We have no comment at this time and we are prayerfully proceeding with what is scripturally and lawfully right."

Meanwhile, the story is spreading over the internet, including on some Baptist press websites.

So far, no formal charges have been brought against Wininger in Michigan.

The Douglas County Sheriff Department told 11 Alive they are aware of the story, but have had no similar complaints against Wininger here.
