Sheriff's office warns of phone scam

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. -- The Douglas County Sheriff's Office wants residents to be aware of a telephone scam.

According to the sheriff's office, victims receive a call from a man who says he is James Watson with the Georgia Police Department.

The scammer tells callers that someone at their home address has an outstanding warrant and must pay a fine in order to clear it. He then gives his victims a phone number and tells them to call it and speak to someone named George Blake, who will request money to get rid of the warrants.

The sheriff's office wants to make it clear that this is a scam, and that Douglas County residents should never give credit card and banking information over the phone.
