19 teens arrested for underage drinking at house party | Crime
DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA (WXIA) -- A Douglas County house party was busted with more than a dozen teens cited for underage drinking. Police say two parents were there the whole time. Now, they are under arrest.
"I think they made a bad mistake and they learned from it," said Douglas County Sheriff's Department Lt. Glen Daniel.
It's the talk of Alexander High School – a January 18 house party that ended with the arrest of 19 teenagers and two adults.
Police said they responded to a loud music complaint at a home on Cool Springs Road and found a group of teens in the driveway.
"When the deputies arrived, they turned off the lights and wouldn't come to the door," said Daniel.
Investigators said the homeowners, Kurt and Rita Dieckman, said they had been asleep. Deputies arrested all 19 teens for underage drinking. Later in the week, warrants were issued for the Dieckmans, who were charged with maintaining a disorderly house.
"During the course of our investigation we found the majority of the alcohol was already at the house and the parents did nothing to intervene," Daniel said.
The parents and teens are all out on bond. Some student and parents say they got what they deserved.
"They should be arrested the parents and students need to go to jail," said one parent, Gregory Evans. "I don't think it's right to be doing that to party like that."
Heather Leahey says her friend was taken into custody and learned a tough lesson.
"She said she regretted going to the party," Leahey said.
