DOUGLASVILLE, GA -- Douglas County's Cedar Mountain Landfill will accept "used" Christmas trees for chipping through the end of January at no cost to residents.

The landfill will take the trees during regular business hours until Monday, Jan. 31. Only residents of Douglas County may participate in this program.

Trees can be delivered to the landfill's recycling center, which also recycles the following materials:

* Aluminum cans
* Automobile batteries
* Office electronics
* Scrap metal and appliances
* Waste motor oil
* Tree limbs/yard debris
* Mattresses
* Cooking oil
* Mixed paper/cardboard
* Propane tanks
* Small engines
* Wood pallets
* Glass
* Mixed plastic
* Tires
* Vacuum cleaners

Used Christmas trees may also be picked up from the landfill by those wishing to use them in fish and wildlife habitat applications. Trees will be offered for this purpose on an "as available" basis.

Cedar Mountain Landfill will be closed on Friday, Dec. 31 from the New Year's holiday and on Monday, Jan. 17 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
